Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What if I mess up?
✅ No worries! Any imperfections can be corrected by lightly scuffing the area or wet sanding with 600–800 grit sandpaper, then reapplying the clear coat.
🔴 Tip: Always test in a small, inconspicuous area first to ensure the desired finish. This helps avoid potential issues during full application.
Q: Can I apply more than one coat?
✅ Absolutely. Our aerosol clear is designed to be applied in multiple thin coats. Allow 3–5 minutes flash time between coats (ambient temperature may affect timing). You can apply 2–4 coats depending on the desired build and gloss.

Application Steps
1. Surface Preparation
-
Wash the surface using Poppy’s Patina Pre-Cleaner and water with a Light Duty Gray Scuff Pad (included in kits).
-
Scrub thoroughly to remove loose scale, dirt, grit, and oxidation.
-
If applying over chipping, failing, or peeling clear coat:
-
Remove any loose or flaking clear coat.
-
Wet sand the edges with 600 grit sandpaper to feather the transition.
-
Rinse the surface and dry completely.
-
- Apply Wax & Grease Remover: Wet one rag with remover, wipe the surface, then dry immediately with a clean rag to remove all contaminants.
(Only Whole Shebang Kits include Pre-Cleaner, Scuff Pads, and Wax & Grease Remover.)
2. Spray Application Instructions

Shake can vigorously for 2 minutes before use and occasionally during application.
-
Hold 8–10 inches from the surface.
-
Apply in thin, even passes, slightly overlapping each pass.
-
Flash time: 3–5 minutes (longer if cooler temperatures).
-
Apply 2–4 coats for best coverage and gloss.
-
If needed, a heat source (IR light or baking) can be applied 20 minutes after last coat to speed curing.
-
After spraying, turn the can upside down and spray until only clear gas comes out to clean the nozzle.
3. Drying and Curing
-
Out of dust: ~20 minutes.
-
Handle time: 45 minutes – 1 hour.
-
Full cure: 14–21 days (minimal sanding and buffing after 14 days recommended).
4. Cleanup
-
Use Acetone or Xylene to remove overspray from unwanted areas.
-
Dispose of rags and applicators safely: Lay used rags flat to dry before disposing to prevent spontaneous combustion.
Important Notes
-
